Cycling the Vía Verde del Aceite – A Journey Through Andalusia’s Olive Heartland.
What will be done and where:
This 4-day guided cycling adventure follows the legendary Vía Verde del Aceite, one of Spain’s longest Greenways. Starting and ending in Granada, the route traces the historic “Oil Train” railway that once connected Jaén with Puente Genil, crossing the sun-drenched olive landscapes of Andalusia’s Córdoba and Jaén provinces.
What makes it unique:
This route offers a rare combination of natural beauty, cultural richness, and historical depth. You’ll ride along a former railway line turned Greenway—smooth, traffic-free, and accessible—passing viaducts, tunnels, and panoramic views over seas of olive trees. The journey reveals the essence of Andalusia, where olive oil—the region’s “liquid gold”—has shaped both landscape and lifestyle.
Unlike typical cycling routes, the Vía Verde del Aceite tells the story of transformation: from rails to trails, from industry to sustainability. The pace is gentle, allowing time to enjoy local gastronomy, explore charming whitewashed villages, and experience authentic rural Spain.
Who carries out the activity:
A professional local cycling guide will lead the group throughout the tour, ensuring safety, storytelling, and local insight. A support vehicle will accompany riders each day, carrying luggage, providing assistance, and preparing picnic lunches along the way.
